Diocesan mission support The Diocese of Tasmania is divided into two mission regions. Six diocesan mission officers assist clergy and parishes in pastoral matters. Administrative, property, legal and financial matters are referred to the Registrar of the diocese. This leaves the parishes free to concentrate on the real mission of the church. Each parish has at least one church - a worshipping community that congregates in a particular church building. The minister responsible for a parish might be a rector, a priest-in-charge, an enabler or a diocesan mission officer. Some parishes don't have a minister living in the parish. In many parishes much of the worship and life of the parish is led by lay people who are not ordained clergy. Some parishes have more than one ordained minister. Sometimes that's a curate who is a new minister. Sometimes it's an honorary priest who ministers part-time but receives no salary from the parish.
